A payment agreement was made between Allen Community College and Architect One, Topeka, Tuesday night at the Allen board of trustees meeting for a renovation plan.
Trustees approved $112,018 for the renovation and remodel of multiple entries, restrooms, locker rooms and science labs and the addition of an athletic director’s office at the main campus.
Steve Troxel, vice president for finance and operations, said in the past the college has paid for construction on an hourly basis as the project goes along. However, fees would add up and it began to cost more in the long run. A lump sum payment is beneficial.
The projects on the main campus are planned to start later in the spring semester.
Cynthia Jacobson, vice president of student affairs, presented an addition to the college’s polices and procedures. Jacobson said the college doesn’t have a policy on saying a student can’t use a catalog of record from 30 years ago. Students who have left college and then returned years later to complete their degree try using an old course catalog to complete the degree.
In the policy a student will have five years to complete a degree or certificate under his/her catalog of record. If the catalog of record expires, the student will need to select from the current year’s catalog.
“Students may not combine program requirements from multiple catalogs,” Jacobson said.
Jacobson added that if the college discontinues a degree or certificate program, students who have already declared their intent to graduate in the program will be allowed a maximum of one year to complete their requirements as long as continuous enrollment is maintained.
The policy was approved.
The trustees approved the payment of the Iola Area Chamber of Commerce Investment membership dues of $554.
